What you should know about cookware

Following the instructions below will ensure that the optimal cooking performance and the beauty of the J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL Classic Clad cookware is maintained for years to come.

Before the first time use:
Wash each piece thoroughly with hot water using liquid dishwashing detergent and a soft sponge or cloth. Dry thoroughly.

Proper Cooking Temperature:

Stove Top:
J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL Classic Clad construction provides superior heat distribution so each pan will heat quickly, so it is not necessary to use high heat. The low to medium heat setting on your stove will be suitable for the best cooking performance. Preheat the pan at the setting you will use for the cooking process. This will ensure that the food will begin cooking at the proper temperature once it is placed in the pan. Due to the excellent heat conductivity of your pan it may be necessary to use a lower temperature setting than you have used with other pans. It is recommended to avoid the use of aerosol cooking sprays. The residue left behind by these sprays is difficult to clean and can cause food to stick.

Oven and Broiler:
J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL Classic Clad cookware can be used in the oven and under the broiler up to 500°. Side handles and lid handles may become hot so oven mitts or potholders should be used when removing pans from the oven.

Utensils:
It is recommended to use wooden, nylon, heat resistant plastic or silicone utensils to preserve the stainless steel interior finish on Classic Clad stainless pans and Classic Clad Nonstick finish pans. Never cut into the pans with a sharp edged instrument, tool or knife.

Cleaning:
Always allow the pan to cool before placing it in water. Soaking the pan in warm water will make clean up easier. J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL Classic Clad cookware can be hand washed using a mild liquid detergent (without lemon) or can be placed in the dishwasher. Although the cookware is dishwasher safe it is recommended to hand wash the pans to maintain the luster of the finish. Dishwasher detergents may contain harsh chemicals, which can discolor the finish over time. The interior and exterior steel finish can be scratched with a steel wool pad. It is recommended for Classic Clad Stainless and Classic Clad Nonstick to use a nylon pad. Cleaners containing abrasive or caustic chemicals should never be used.

Stain Removal and Polishing:
The beauty of J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL Classic Clad cookware can be easily maintained by following some simple guidelines:

Stains to the stainless steel finish can be caused by prolonged contact with acidic foods or in geographic areas with a high chlorine or iron content tap water. Also, if the pan has been overheated or let boil dry blue stains may occur on the surface. Use a non-abrasive cleaner recommended for stainless steel to remove stains and polish both the interior and exterior finish.

Note: Salt can damage the beauty of the stainless steel surface of your pans. Contact with salt can cause imperfections or pitting which cannot be removed by polishing. Always add salt to liquids once they have reached a boil.

Capacity and Code Marking
The inside of most of your J.A. HENCKELS INTERNATIONAL Classic Clad Cookware pans is marked with the capacity in quarts and liters for your convenience in measuring ingredients. Also a code is provided on the inside of each lid which corresponds to the code found on the bottom of the pans. This allows for easy selection of the right size lid for each pan. (For example lid size 24 will fit the three quart Saut- Pan, three quart Saut Casserole, five quart Dutch Oven and the six and eight quart Stock Pots.)
